From Brierley Ostrander (MFA 01) “Our second child, Moira Kate Bahn, was born on December 26th -- it was a lovely and uneventful home waterbirth. I'm still a Coast Guard officer up here in Alaska, inspecting everything from fishing vessels to cruise ships for safety and security compliance. From Sylwia Dudzinska (MFA 09) “I've moved out to Dallas and that I was just hired as the Head P.A. on the feature Language of a Broken Heart. 6 week feature!”

The Tallahassee Film Festival announced two film selections, special award winners and the festival presenting sponsor at the “I ♥ Tallahassee Film Festival” event Thursday evening. Two buzz-worthy films will be screened at the 2010 TFF thanks to the Florida State University’s Torchlight Program <http://film.fsu.edu/Undergraduate-Programs/The-Torchlight-Progr... . Collapse - an official selection of the 2009 Toronto Film Festival, is a documentary/horror film directed by Chris Smith. Roger Ebert gave the movie four stars, and TIME Magazine has called it “hypnotic and haunting.” Thespians - directed by Warren Skeels, is a documentary film following high school theatre troupes as they audition, rehearse and compete in the largest high school theatre festival in the world. The film has yet to be released to the public. The 2010 TFF is proud to announce our special awards recipients!

· Don Ungurait, winner of the Lifetime Performance Award (Don Ungurait is the founding dean of the Florida State University School of Motion Picture, Television and Recording Arts. In 1990, Ungurait was recognized by the Association of Independent Commercial Producers as the Film Educator of the Decade He has directed more than 50 plays, musicals and operas and has received more than 200 producer-director credits.)

· Barry Jenkins, winner of the Distinguished Achievement Award, (Barry Jenkins is an FSU Film School graduate best known for his award-winning film Medicine for the Melancholy. The film earned Jenkins critical acclaim and landed him a place in Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 Faces of Independent Film.” Medicine for Melancholy also received three Independent Spirit Award nominations, a Gotham Award nomination for Breakthrough Director, and a Best Film nomination at the Mar del Plata Film Festival.)

· Eyad Zahra, winner of the Emerging Filmmaker Award. (Eyad Zahra, another FSU graduate, is an up-and-coming young director whose latest film, The Taqwacores, debuted at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival as an Official Selection. In his last year at FSU, Zahra wrote and directed "Distance from the Sun,” which played in more then 20 film festivals and went on to win a best student short film award in Dubai.)

TFF is proud to announce that these talented and respected filmmakers will be making appearances at the festival for networking, lectures and workshops.

From Barbie Nettles, Tallahassee: “I'm producing a play which is a benefit for a local school and I hoped you would help me spread the word. A number of the regulars at the film school are in it... Henry Tisdale, Art Wallace, Bert Mitchell, Tim Nettles, Renee Sheldon, Jonathan Walker and a few of us that haven't been seen in a while like me. You are invited to join us for a benefit performance of Almost, Maine by John Cariani. Meet the award winning In the Moment Players on a cold and starry night in this mythical town where, compelled by the power of love, lives change forever beneath the glow of the aurora borealis. Special appearances by the School of Arts and Sciences Thespians will highlight this magical night. Where will the enchantment of love take you? March 5 & 6, 8:00 pm, doors open at 7:30 pm, 3208 Thomasville Road (across from Oven Park), The School of Arts & Sciences General admission tickets are available at Tallahassee Nurseries during regular business hours Prices are: adults $12, children 16 & under $8.
