We had a great screening in LA this week, super films, and awesome to see so many alums. Following the screening Jen Braddock (BFA 04 ) made two awards of a 3 day use of her camera package (Sony pMW-F3 Camera boy, accessories, matte box, follow focus, prime lenses), and tickets to the SOC lifetime achievement awards. Clint Eastwood is getting an award this year! Jen’s awards were made to Jacob Abrams (BFA 11) and Matt Ryan (MFA 11), both of whom DP’d films that were screened.
From Adele Romanski (BFA 04) “The Film I wrote & directed, LEAVE ME LIKE YOU FOUND ME, will have it's world premiere at SXSW next month. (Entire fest line up here). Needless to say I am beyond beyond excited for this -- we've been chipping away at this film in between other projects & cannot wait to finally share with an audience. Taylor Feltner (BFA 04) produced, James Laxton (BFA 03) DP'd, Nicole West (BFA 02) edited, Samantha Polan (BFA 09) associate produced, & Charles Ingram (BFA 08) has created some killer campaign art for the film. Hope too see some of you in Austin!”
And also at SXSW Amy Seimetz (FSU alum and actress in many of our films) makes her feature directorial debut in this tale of a Florida couple on the road doing "very bad things." It's been described as being "inspired by Two-Lane Blacktop, Deliverance, Woman Under the Influence and reoccurring nightmares" and co-stars indie community cohorts Kate Lyn Sheil and AJ Bowen.
"The MFA Writing class of 2012 just returned from our week at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival's regional conference in Daytona Beach, Florida. We won every category we competed in, with Zdenka Turecek's ten-minute play "Somewhere in Between" and Rebekah Suellau's one-act play "The Pretty Girl Basket Toss" . We also presented an invited production of "Don't Worry, Baby," an award-winning one-act by Alexandra Landers (MFA-W '11). The show starred FSU actors Meg Scott Cain, Michael Patrick, and Perry Powell, with ensemble roles played by Kelley Garnier, Elly Schaefer, Rebeccah Noyes, and the writing program's own Matthew Barnette, Ray Nelson, and Corey Womack. It was designed by Marco Barreto (MFA '11), stage managed by FSU School of Theater alumna Sarah George, and produced and directed by Rebekah Suellau. The show was a tremendous success with audiences and professional respondents. We also presented concert readings of four ten-minute plays (Matthew Barnette's "Capes and Tights," Rebekah Suellau's "Under the Tower," Zdenka Turecek's "Somewhere in Between," and Corey Womack's "Death of a Newspaper Man") and Rebekah's one-act. It was a huge week for FSU in the theater community, and we are honored to have had the opportunity to showcase our work and the excellent training we've received here at the film school."
From Jim Lakin (BFA 01) “The show I've been mixing since November is called "STEVIE TV" and will air Sundays at 11pm on VH1 beginning March 4th. It's a sketch comedy show starring Stevie Ryan and several other re-occurring cast members. The show spoofs reality shows, celebrities, and musicians. It should be very enjoyable to anyone with a sense of humor and healthy disdain for the reality TV world.”
From Will Sampson (BFA 09) “Just wanted to let you know Adam Johns, Brian Barrow (both BFA 09) and I have an Indie GoGo account going on now for a television pilot we are going to do, if you could help us get the word out that would be great!
