Congratulations to Ali Bell (BFA 99) who was an Associate Producer for Montecito on Up in the Air! Up in the Air is nominated for no less than six Oscars!!! What more can I say?

From Gina Papabeis (BFA 08) “I am so thrilled to announce that THE COVE has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary!!! I've been working closely with the filmmakers at the Oceanic Preservation Society for the past six months and have been involved with our Oscar campaign as well. It's been exciting to work on this film-- which I care deeply about-- since before the theatrical release and on through awards season. For those that haven't yet seen them film, I urge you to watch what is not only a compelling call to action for our oceans, but also a film that unfolds like a true life spy thriller. DVD info is at www.thecovemovie.com. Some of you might be afraid to see it, but I can attest to the countless audience members that have said they are glad they watched the film! (And that the movie does not focus on blood and gore at all). We've had various successes in trying to end the dolphin drives featured in the film, but being nominated for an Oscar is the biggest thing that we could hope for in exposing this issue. As a side note-- Next month I will be joining the Oceanic Preservation Society on a three week underwater photography expedition in a remote location in Indonesia. We are going to one of the most biologically diverse areas and best dive spots in the world! Thanks so much to the Film School and Paul Cohen at Torchlight for all their support. It's truly helped me get to where I am today!”

From Adele Romanski (BFA 04) “The Myth of the American Sleepover will be premiering at SXSW in March. We are one of eight films in competition. I know there have been many updates over the last few years, but as a quick reminder, the film was written & directed by David Mitchell (MFA 02), Produced by me!(BFA 04) Cinematographer, James Laxton (BFA 03) Editor, Julio Perez (MFA 02), Associate Producers, Justin Barber (BFA 03) & Cherie Saulter (BFA 06), and Vrett Jacobsen (MFA 03) was one of our lead actors. We shot the film in Detroit in the Summer of 2008 and are all thrilled to finally be presenting to an audience. The trailer will be up soon at www.americansleepover.com <http://www.americansleepover.com>
Also, we just sold The Freebie (which I also produced and which premiered at Sundance as part of NEXT). Working out the delivery schedule now...will have a limited theatrical. I'll keep you posted as I know the specifics.

From Ryan Saul (MFA 95) “I don’t normally do this, but I wanted to make you all aware my client, Stan Foster’s directing debut which opens in 23 states, and 33 cities this weekend with a plan to expand to 400 cities in the following weeks. The music is great, the performances by the leads Letoya Luckett and Tank are incredible for two actors making their screen debut. Please click on the link below, to find the nearest theater screening the movie. http://www.preacherskidmovie.com/theater.php Please feel free to forward to anyone you think would enjoy this kind of inspirational entertainment. Myself, Stan, Warners and Gener8xion would love your support. Thanks.”

From Bruce Bullock (MFA 94) “Please check out "Iridium Consequence" on Facebook. You'll find links to a trailer and more fun stuff for this no-budget feature my sister Maggie Martin recently starred in (I have a tiny bit in it too).”

From Jason Rodgers (MFA 99) “Some long overdue news - this summer I was promoted to Program Chair of the Media Production Department at American Intercontinental University in Atlanta. Sorry for not mentioning it sooner, especially since I'm now coming to you with my hat in my hand! It looks like I'm going to need to hire two Full Time Instructors (40 hrs/week) and several Part Time/Adjunct Instructors in the very near future - and I'd LOVE to hire some Film Schools grads. Applicants will need to hold a Masters degree in the field, preferably an MFA, and will need to realize that this is a "career college" - which means there will be a number of expectations that fall outside the "usual
and customary" tasks expected of a college professor. Applicants need not have "tons" of teaching experience - it's more important that you "know your stuff," because we can help mentor and "teach you how to teach." This can be a GREAT place to develop your CV if you've ever had an interest in teaching, and to really learn the craft of teaching at the undergraduate level. If anyone is interested, they can please contact me at: jrodgers@aiuniv.edu or 404.965.6545.”

From Nancy Leopardi, Line Producer NancyLA@mac.com <mailto:NancyLA@mac.com> “I'm looking for a PA/intern to sporadically help out on a documentary shoot for the next 4 months in Los Angeles. Chris Rock is attached as an executive producer. We're interviewing high profile stand-up comedians such as Paul Provenza, Carol Leifer and eventually scheduling interviews with Jerry Seinfeld, Sarah Silverman, Chris Rock and possibly Eddie Murphy. You would be needed this Tuesday and Wednesday for just a few hours in the afternoon. This would entail moving a small amount of video equipment and some help setting up interview lights, so some grip/gaffer knowledge would be helpful. In the upcoming months you could be involved with behind the scenes production if you're looking to become a producer, or just on-set production assistance if you have your sights set on a grip gaffer or cinematography career. The documentary as of now is unfunded until we find a distributor, so no immediate pay, but a good opportunity to work with an established dp and receive imdb credit (as a PA or grip) on a project in production. Send me an email asap with your resume, your career goals and your availability.
